Bible Verses About Love

God is love — and His love transforms everything it touches. These verses reveal both the depth of His love for us and how that love flows through us to others.

John 3:16

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Perhaps the most famous verse in Scripture, summarizing the gospel: God's love motivated the ultimate sacrifice.

1 John 4:8

"Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love."

John makes an astounding claim: love isn't just something God does — it's who He is.

Romans 8:38-39

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Paul exhaustively lists everything that cannot separate us from God's love — nothing in all creation has that power.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs."

Paul defines love not by feelings but by actions — a portrait of how God loves us and how we're called to love.

Zephaniah 3:17

"The LORD your God is among you, a mighty warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you with His love; He will rejoice over you with singing."
