Bible Verses About Hope
Biblical hope is not wishful thinking — it's confident expectation based on God's character and promises. These verses anchor our hope in the One who holds our future.
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope."
God speaks to exiles in Babylon, assuring them that even in displacement, His plans for their good remain unchanged.
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Paul prays that believers would be filled with hope through trusting God and the Spirit's power.
"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure."
Hope is described as an anchor — something that holds us steady when life's storms try to toss us about.
"Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why the unrest within me? Put your hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, my Savior and my God."
The psalmist preaches to himself, redirecting his discouraged soul toward hope in God.
"Yet I call this to mind, and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD's loving devotion we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."
Jeremiah finds hope in the midst of Jerusalem's destruction by focusing on God's unfailing compassion.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead."
Peter roots our hope in Christ's resurrection — because Jesus rose, our hope is "living," not merely theoretical.
"I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I put my hope."
The psalmist connects waiting, hoping, and trusting God's word — hope is sustained by Scripture.
