Bible Verses About Joy
Biblical joy is not dependent on circumstances — it's a fruit of the Spirit rooted in our relationship with God. These verses point us to the source of lasting joy.
"Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
Nehemiah redirects people from grief to joy in God as their source of strength.
"You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore."
David locates fullness of joy in God's presence.
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Paul prays for joy to overflow through trust and the Spirit's power.
"I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete."
Jesus desires His followers to experience His own complete joy.
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance."
James calls believers to joy even in trials because of what God produces through them.

Paul lists joy as a fruit produced by the Holy Spirit in believers.
"For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning."
David promises that sorrow gives way to joy.
"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!"
Paul commands continual rejoicing, emphasizing it with repetition.
