Bible Verses About Grief

Grief is a natural response to loss, and God meets us in our sorrow. These verses offer comfort for the brokenhearted and remind us that we do not grieve alone.

Psalm 34:18

"The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."

David assures us that God draws especially close to those who are grieving.

Matthew 5:4

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."

Jesus promises comfort to those who grieve — mourning leads to blessing.

Revelation 21:4

"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away."

John's vision reveals the ultimate end of grief when God makes all things new.
