Bible Verses About Anxiety
When anxiety feels overwhelming, Scripture offers peace that transcends our circumstances. These verses remind us that we are not alone and that God's peace is available even in our most anxious moments.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Paul's letter offers one of Scripture's most direct addresses of anxiety — an invitation to exchange our anxiety for God's peace through prayer.
"Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."
Peter's encouragement is both simple and profound: God invites us to give Him our anxieties because He genuinely cares.
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns — and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"
Jesus addresses the universal human tendency to worry about basic needs, pointing us toward trust in God's provision.
"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."
God's promise addresses both fear and anxiety with three assurances: His presence, His strength, and His support.
"When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul."
The psalmist acknowledges multiplying anxious thoughts while affirming that God's comfort brings genuine delight.
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
Jesus distinguishes His peace from worldly peace — it's not dependent on circumstances but is a gift that remains.
"Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken."
David encourages the active release of our burdens to God, with the promise that He will sustain us.
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control."
Paul reminds us that fear and anxiety are not gifts from God. Instead, He equips us with power, love, and a sound mind.
"The LORD is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid?"
David's declaration reframes anxiety through the lens of God's character: if God is light, salvation, and stronghold, what truly threatens us?
"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
Jesus extends a personal invitation to those carrying heavy burdens — not to try harder, but to exchange our burdens for His gentle guidance.
